As we all know that in India the onion rate is increasing day by day.But you ever thought that in Hinduism and Jainism the onions and garlic are two demons.
According to Hinduism:
After Samudra Manthan Lord Vishnu was distributing nectar among the Devtas and while distributing,two demons named Rahu and Ketu came among the Devtas and opened their mouth for a sip of nectar.Vishnu by mistake put some nectar in their mouth because it was very difficult to recognize a deva in such a huge gathering of devtas.
When Vishnu realized that he by mistake dropped some nectar in the demon's mouth.He threw Sudarshan Chakra at them and their head got separated from their body. Before they could enjoy their nectar.And from the blood of Rahu and Ketu,Onion and garlic were born.From Rahu's head onion and Ketu's head Garlic.But,some nectar was gone inside their mouth and most of the nectar never enter their body as Vishnu attacked them with Sudarshan Chakra and most of the nectar was in their separated head which had no value.
But because some nectar entered their body they also have some advantage of eating.This is the reason why onion and Garlic are never kept near holy places of Hindus.
